99 Speedmart's Beaufort branch sent us 1,140 kg of expired and damaged goods to be recycled into feed for our Black Soldier Fly larvae, extending our collaboration to a new location.

Our collaboration with 99 Speedmart has reached a new location. This week our team made the first collection from their Beaufort branch, picking up 1,140 kg of expired and damaged goods — cartons of milk powder, biscuits and cream crackers, instant coffee and other dry goods that had reached the end of their shelf life.

Instead of being sent to landfill, every carton was loaded onto our pickup and brought back to the farm. There the goods are sorted, stripped of packaging and fed to our Black Soldier Fly larvae, which convert them into protein-rich larvae for animal feed and nutrient-rich frass for the soil.

That is 1,140 kg kept out of the waste stream and returned to productive use, along with the methane emissions and soil pollution that would have come with burying it.

We thank 99 Speedmart Beaufort for joining our recycling efforts, and we look forward to many more collections as this partnership grows across Sabah.
